| The Mill at Moores Store, Winter 32" x 40" |
|||||||||||
This water mill is one of the oldest in Virginia, with its construction dating back to 1730. The Moore family owned it for 200 years, and prior to the Revolutionary War, George Washington surveyed the property for Lord Fairfax of England. It was burned by General Custer during the Civil War, and rebuilt shortly after, continuing to operate until the 1930's. Currently it is owned by Joan Hulvey, and the old grainery has been converted to an apartment, where I paint and reside. Like the first mill painting, I tried to capture the mill's beauty and serenity, and I feel extremely lucky to live in such a beautiful and historic spot. I have 8" x 10" prints of this painting available. |
